How you can do more

Can you do more to employ people with disabilities in your organisation?

Create a new position

Many jobs are made up of a combination of duties that are skilled and tasks which could be carried out by anyone.  Consider taking various duties and combining them to create a new position which could be filled by a person with a disability.

Implement a hiring policy

You could implement a policy of hiring a certain percentage of employees with disabilities, for example, 10%, or even as high as 25% depending on your business. Local employers who have made this move say staff turnover is low, productivity is high, and their company culture is inclusive, friendly and motivating.

Social Enterprise

A social enterprise is a businesses whose main aim is a positive community outcome, such providing employment for people with disabilities. Although profit is not the primary focus, social enterprises need to be operated as successful, sustainable businesses to provide the benefits for which they are created.
